What America Wants to Grow: Crop Search-Demand 2026

We tracked 12-month Google search momentum for 111 crops. 49 are rising — some sharply. Search interest is a leading indicator of what home growers plant next season and what consumers want on shelves. Here's what's heating up, and which rising crops the U.S. still buys abroad.

Key findings

  • Pistachio is the fastest riser: search interest up 127% year over year.
  • Coffee combines a huge base (84/100 interest index) with +54% growth — while the U.S. net-imports 1.3M tonnes of green coffee.
  • Kitchen-garden staples are surging: figs +68%, sweet potatoes +65%, raspberries +39%.
  • 12 crops are rising in search while the U.S. remains a net importer — the clearest grow-local opportunities in the dataset.

Rising demand, still imported: the grow-local shortlist

These crops pair rising search interest with a U.S. net-import position (UN Comtrade) — demand is growing and domestic supply hasn't caught up.

Methodology

Search momentum = average Google Trends interest (U.S. web search) over the trailing 12 months versus the prior 12 months, per crop keyword shown in quotes. The interest index (0–100) is Google's relative scale, where 100 is the most-searched crop keyword in the set. Keyword interest reflects all search intent for the term, not only growing intent. Net imports = imports − exports, latest full year, UN Comtrade. Crop coverage: the 111 crops in the AgriAuditor database with unambiguous keywords — full methodology.
